Red Banner vs. Blue Banner - What’s the Difference?

At National American Miss, there are two meaningful pathways to becoming a national queen. Both are prestigious, both are celebrated, and both lead to an unforgettable national experience.

Red Banner Queens | State Queens
Contestants who win their state pageant earn the official title of Miss State for their division. These queens receive a red satin keepsake banner and advance to the National Pageant to compete for the ultimate title: National American Miss (e.g., National American Miss Pre-Teen). State Queens proudly represent their home state on the national stage and embody the traditional path of advancing through the state competition system.

Blue Banner Queens | City Queens / National All-American Competitors
If a contestant does not win her state pageant, she can still qualify for Nationals in several ways. Once qualified, she may attend Nationals as a City Queen, representing her local area. City Queens have the option to purchase a blue satin banner with their Miss City title. These contestants compete together at Nationals for the prestigious National All-American Miss title (e.g., National All-American Miss Pre-Teen).
This is often called “our second chance at first place.”

One Program. Two Paths. Equal Pride.
While there are some differences in the prize packages between Red Banner (State) Queens and Blue Banner (City) Queens, both titles are equally respected within NAM. No matter the color of the banner, every contestant has the opportunity to:

-
Shine on the national stage
-
Compete for a national crown
-
Take part in extraordinary events
-
Experience the sisterhood, leadership, and personal growth NAM is known for

Both banners represent dedication, confidence, and achievement... and both lead to the incredible honor of becoming a National Queen with National American Miss.
